Group Bulletin • September 2026
At HMCA we understand that membership is more than just a transaction.
Our private medical plans offer members tangible and intangible benefits. We have helped organisations since 1978 grow their communities, increase engagement, and strengthen retention.
Welcome to the latest edition of our monthly member bulletin. As always, you will find a round-up of what we’ve been up to this month, our upcoming events and information about why having a private medical plan doesn’t compromise NHS care.
We’d love for you to share this information about our plans with your members, so they can benefit from the added value HMCA brings to their membership.
Elaine has worked as the Claims Manager at HMCA for over 10 years and brings a wealth of experience to the claims team, who interact on a daily basis with our members helping to settle claims promptly while liaising with hospitals and doctors.
Through collective effort and professionalism, the team aim to achieve over 90% claims settled on the same day. For example, since August last year we have reached this target maintaining the friendly, personal customer service approach our members value.
Elaine said:
“We’re a tight-knit group in the claims department and work well together to process claims quickly and efficiently while also addressing any problems our members have… Over the years we’ve grown close to a number of our members and enjoy the personal relationships we’re able to build, a key part of the ethos here at HMCA.”
Members’ premiums are not impacted when they make a claim.
We had a fantastic time at this year’s Workplace Saving and Benefits (WSB) Awards. We were nominated in two categories – Health Care Plan Provider of the Year and Health and Wellbeing Provider of the Year.
Our team enjoyed the three-course meal, entertainment and awards ceremony at the Grosvenor Square Hotel in London.
It was great to celebrate and be recognised for all the hard work the team has put in over the past 12 months to deliver outstanding service for our members.
Take a look at a selection of photos from the night.
Hot on the heels of the WSB Awards, we are attending several events in November.
Following on from our attendance at the Royal College of Nursing Congress earlier this year will be at their Nursing Live event. We will be hosting two presentations alongside nurses from Harrogate Hospital, discussing the current state of nursing, the psychological impact of the profession and the support available. We will also be running a stand to showcase our range of comprehensive medical plans.
We will also be exhibiting our plans at the Bar Council Conference, the representative body for barristers. We’re looking forward to an exciting day, which will also feature a talk from TV’s Judge Rob Rinder.
A common misconception is that private medical insurance (PMI) replaces NHS treatment.
In reality, PMI is designed to complement the NHS, giving people additional options for accessing healthcare while continuing to benefit from NHS services whenever they need them.
Having a private medical plan does not change your right to access NHS care or remove you from NHS services. Private healthcare and the NHS can work alongside each other, ensuring that individuals retain full access to NHS services while benefiting from additional healthcare choices.
Choosing to go private simply provides an alternative route to care for that specific episode of treatment. By offering greater choice and faster access to healthcare services, HMCA helps individuals take a proactive approach to their health while continuing to support the vital role of the NHS.
With demand for private healthcare continuing to rise, membership groups play a critical role in helping members understand their options and access faster routes to diagnosis and treatment.
