HMCA Champions Social Impact at National Enterprise Awards

Knaresborough-based HMCA have sponsored a national award which celebrates programmes delivering positive social and community outcomes through enterprise.

The family-owned Hospital & Medical Care Association (HMCA) has been one of the most successful membership benefit providers in the UK for more than 48 years and sponsored the Social and Community Impact Award at the National Enterprise Network (NEN) Awards 2026.

Each year the awards celebrate the organisations, initiatives and individuals who are making an outstanding contribution to enterprise support across the UK.

The Social and Community Impact Award, which was won by Yorkshire in Business, recognises initiatives that support underrepresented or disadvantaged groups, create inclusive opportunities, and make a tangible difference to local communities.

HMCA, who specalise in offering membership benefits exclusively for membership groups, was delighted to sponsor the award and attend the ceremony in London on Thursday, March 26.

A spokesperson for HMCA said:

“It was wonderful to attend the NEN annual conference and awards in Canary Wharf and see the powerful work being done to support enterprise across the country.

“It was especially exciting to meet the winners of our sponsored award, Yorkshire in Business, and learn about the tangible difference they are making to communities a stone’s throw from our office in North Yorkshire. Congratulations!”

Yorkshire in Business, founded in 1985, is a not-for-profit enterprise group dedicated to supporting and nurturing small businesses across the Yorkshire Coast.

They offer free business support to both start-up and established businesses as well as working in the community with local schools and colleges to inspire young entrepreneurs.

Their Freedom programme also works to empower micro businesses who provide care services like cleaning, shopping and personal care to elderly and/or vulnerable adults in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Jenn Crowther, CEO of Yorkshire in Business, said:

“At Yorkshire in Business, we’ve seen first-hand how the Freedom programme changes lives on both sides.

“We’re supporting vulnerable people to access the care they need, while also helping individuals build confidence, skills and sustainable livelihoods through self-employment.

“It shows what’s possible when organisations come together with a shared purpose. We were extremely proud to win the award for social impact in enterprise as we truly believe this is a perfect fit for our enterprise project.”

HMCA, based at Beech Hall, Knaresborough, offers private medical plans exclusively for members of professional and trade associations and membership groups.

These groups include the Federation of Small Businesses, National Enterprise Network (NEN), Association of International Accountants and Women in Banking and Finance.

HMCA is also actively involved in charity work, holding an office dress down Friday and Easter Raffle in aid of Cancer Research UK and partners with the Woodland Trust, supporting the planting of more than 900 square metres of native woodland last year.
